Head Start
Supplemental Assistance Program (HSSAP) is:

State funding available
through the Pennsylvania Department of Education
|

An expansion of high quality
pre-kindergarten Head Start services for eligible children
throughout Pennsylvania |
 |
Opportunity for Head Start
Programs to enroll and service additional three and four year
old children and expand full day and full year service
opportunities for children and families
|
In order for Head
Start of York County to receive HSSAP funds, the following criteria need
to be demonstrated:
 |
Show need for additional
Head Start Services in York County |
 |
Have the ability to expand,
either independently or in cooperation with a local school
district, a licensed child care center or registered family
child care home |
 |
Have the ability to comply
with federal Head Start and state child care requirements for
Head Start - provided extended day services |

Head Start of York County
has opened seven additional classrooms |
 |
Head Start of York County is
servicing an additional 119 children and families |
 |
Head Start of York County
has established and strengthened four community partnerships |
About our HSSAP
community partnerships:
 |
York City School
District: provides a classroom space, facility services,
health/ nutrition services, shared training opportunities for
staff, collaboration opportunities with building staff,
opportunities for Head Start students to interact with other
children in the building |
 |
Lincoln Edison Charter
School: provides health screenings, access to gymnasium and
library, opportunities for our students to pair with classes of
older children for shared learning activities, shared training
opportunities for staff |
 |
Lincoln Intermediate Unit
(LIU): embeds students with special needs for inclusion into
our Head Start classrooms, provides bus transport for IU
children, instructional support for students with special needs,
training to Head Start staff to increase knowledge and
understanding of educating children with disabilities, shared
training opportunities for staff, a classroom space, facility
services, opportunity for interaction between Head Start and
specialized LIU preschool special needs students

Hanover YWCA:
provides a full day/ extended services option for working
families, classroom space, shared training opportunities for
staff, opportunities for participation in YWCA program
activities for children and families
