Head Start of York County has classes funded through the Federal government and the State government. All Head Start classrooms adhere to all Federal regulations and follow the same curriculum. To learn more about the State classrooms, click here.

 

Head Start of York County has the following classrooms:

bullet

two eight-hour, all day classrooms

bullet

28 five-hour, half-day classrooms

bullet

three home based classrooms

 

Curriculum

Head Start of York County uses the High Scope Pre-School Curriculum. High Scope is a hands-on, active learning approach to educating young children. In our classrooms, children will:

 

  work with other children   explore
  make decisions   create
  solve problems   play
  develop self confidence   become independent

 

PATHS

Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies

Head Start combines the High Scope curriculum with the PATHS Pre-School curriculum. PATHS helps children develop:

bullet self-control
bullet emotional awareness
bullet positive self-esteem
bullet problem-solving skills

Daily Classroom Routine

Children follow a consistent daily routine which includes:

bullet breakfast & lunch
bullet personal care
bullet large group time
bullet plan-do-review
bullet small group time
bullet outdoor play

 

Head Start believes parents are the child's first teachers. In Head Start, parents and teachers work together as a team to develop individual goals to ensure that each child succeeds.

 

Together, we will give each child a head start in school and each family a head start in advocating for their child's education.
